Limited Steam account and Deadlock: why your invite never comes
Deadlock refuses to invite limited Steam accounts. The invite simply never comes, and the person inviting you often can't see why. It's rare (17 of the 2,611 invites Invite Frog sent, 0.7%), but when it's you, it's the whole reason. Here is what it is and how to lift it.
What a limited account is
Steam limits accounts that haven't spent $5 (USD, other currencies are converted) in the Steam store in total. Limited accounts can play, but can't send friend requests, stay at Steam level 0 and miss other community features. Valve lists them on Steam's limited user accounts page. Deadlock also doesn't give invites to them.
Games you were gifted, free-to-play games, demos and free weekends don't count toward the $5.
How to tell
- You can't send friend requests: Steam says your account is limited. That's the sure sign.
- Your Steam level is stuck at 0.
- Invite Frog tells you: when Deadlock refuses a limited account, it says so in your chat.
How to lift it
- 1 Spend $5 in the Steam store: buy a game, add a Steam Wallet card of $5 or more, or buy a Steam gift of $5 or more. A gift or gift card someone else gives you doesn't count.
- 2 The limit is usually lifted right after. Check that you can send a friend request.
- 3 Ask for the invite again. With Invite Frog: remove and add it again, and it invites you once more.
Can't add someone because of it
Limited accounts can't send friend requests, but Steam lets them use quick invite links. The one-click link on the Invite Frog page adds it right away, even from a limited account. Deadlock still won't invite you until the limit is lifted, but the frog tells you so in its chat.
Questions
- Can a limited Steam account get Deadlock?
- No. Deadlock refuses to invite limited accounts. Spend $5 on Steam (a game or Wallet funds) and ask for the invite again.
- How do I remove the Steam limited account?
- Spend at least $5 in the Steam store: a game, a Steam Wallet card of $5 or more, or a Steam gift you buy. Gifts you receive don't count.
- I can't add anyone on Steam. Can I still get a Deadlock invite?
- Not until the limit is lifted: Deadlock refuses limited accounts. You can still add Invite Frog with its one-click link, since Steam allows quick invite links from limited accounts.
