Colorblind settings for Deadlock

Deadlock leans on red and green to tell allies from enemies and to show how hurt someone is. With red-green colour blindness (deuteranopia or protanopia) or blue-yellow (tritanopia), that's hard to read in a fight. Here's how to fix it, starting with what the game offers.

Start with the game's setting

Deadlock's settings have a Custom UI colors section with three options: Enemy color (enemy health bars and other enemy indicators), Enemy damage color (the flash on health an enemy just lost) and Enemy zipline color (enemy ziplines, and enemy objectives on the minimap). Set those first: they're the game's own fix.

They only change enemy colours. Allies, your own health warnings, and things like the kill feed and chat keep the game's colours, and that's what Colour Assist covers.

Colour Assist for the rest of the HUD

Colour Assist is an add-on that comes with UI Kit. It repaints every part of the HUD that tells friend from foe and good from bad, and adds cues that don't rely on colour at all.

Colour Assist on the game's HUD: blue allies, orange enemies, and low health in yellow.
  1. 1
  2. 2
In Deadlock, open Settings, then the UI Kit section, and switch on Colour Assist.
  3. 3
Pick the palette for your eyes (below). You can also change it in a match: Esc, UI Kit, the Theme tab.

Which palette?

  • Deutan / protan, for red-green colour blindness (the most common kind): blue allies, orange enemies, yellow for low health.
  • Tritanopia, for blue-yellow colour blindness: teal against red.
  • High contrast: cyan against magenta on black plates, for low vision or very bright scenes.

Tip: Not sure which kind you have? Try deutan / protan first: it suits most colour-blind players.

Cues that don't need colour

  • Enemy names in italics, in the kill feed and on markers.
  • A bigger low-health warning: a glow on the screen's edges when you're low.
  • High-contrast plates: dark backgrounds with outlines behind HUD text, so it reads over anything.

Colour Assist works on the game's own HUD and with every UI Kit theme, so you can combine it with Arena or Big Text.
