How it works
- 1 Add Invite Frog on Steam: the button opens Steam, or paste the friend code under Friends › Add a Friend.
- 2 The frog accepts within seconds and invites you to Deadlock, the same invite as the game’s “Invite your Friends” menu. It tells you how it went in a Steam chat message.
- 3 Valve sends you the invite as a card in that chat, right now in about 2 minutes. Accept it and Deadlock is added to your Steam library.
- 4 A couple of hours later the frog removes you from its friends to make room for the next people. Nothing for you to do.

Before you add it
- Your Steam account must not be limited: it needs to have spent $5 on Steam. Limited accounts can’t send friend requests, and Deadlock won’t invite them.
- You don’t have Deadlock yet. If you do, the frog tells you so.
What the frog’s message means
| The frog says | What to do |
|---|---|
| You’re in! | Wait a few minutes for Valve’s invite card in the same chat. |
| You can play Deadlock now! | Accept the invite card. Deadlock is added to your library. |
| Your account is limited | Spend $5 on Steam (a game or a wallet top-up), then add the frog again. |
| You already have access | Look for Deadlock in your Steam library; it may be under “Not installed”. |
| No message after an hour | Check the frog’s status on this page. If it says paused, the frog invites you when it’s back. |
Questions
Is Deadlock still invite-only?
Yes. Deadlock is a playtest: you can’t buy it, and you get in when someone who has it invites you from the game’s “Invite your Friends” menu. That person has to be your Steam friend.
How does the frog invite me?
The Invite Frog is a Steam account that has Deadlock, worked by a frog we trained to hand out invites (it’s paid in flies). When you add it as a friend it accepts on its own, then uses the same invite as the game’s menu. Valve then grants the invite to your account.
How long does a Deadlock invite take?
Right now about 2 minutes: that’s the median time from the frog’s invite to Valve’s, over its last 30 invites, measured live. The invite arrives as a card in your Steam chat with the frog; accept it and Deadlock is added to your library. The game itself says invites can take 1-2 days.
What is a limited Steam account?
An account that hasn’t spent $5 on Steam yet. Limited accounts can’t send friend requests, and Deadlock refuses to invite them. Buying any game or adding $5 to your Steam wallet lifts it.
Is it free? Is it safe?
It’s free, and all it ever needs is a friend request. The frog never asks for your password, a payment or a trade (only flies, and we cover those). Deadlock invites are free, so anyone selling one is scamming.
Who runs this?
Frogtech, who make the Deadlock mods on this site. It’s a fan project, not Valve’s.
