Deadlock mod managers compared: which one to use
Three free, open-source mod managers install Deadlock mods: Frogtech Mod Loader (ours), Deadlock Mod Manager and Grimoire. They all install mods and switch them on and off. Where they differ is where they find mods, what they do after a game update, and the extras. Here they are side by side, so you can pick one.
Side by side
| Frogtech Mod Loader | Deadlock Mod Manager | Grimoire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Windows 10 and 11 | Windows, Linux | Windows, Linux, macOS (experimental) |

| Finding mods | GameBanana and this site, inside the app | Its own Mods Store | GameBanana, inside the app |
| One-click links | Install buttons on this site | Not stated on its site | GameBanana's 1-Click Install |
| After a game update | Turns mods back on within seconds, in the background | Warns while Steam updates, checks your mods against the new game and fixes some itself; Launch Modded applies mods as the game starts | Not stated on its site |
| Mod updates | Installs new versions by itself | Check for updates in the Mods Library | Not stated on its site |
| Load order | Drag mods up and down | Not stated on its site | Reorder, with warnings when mods replace the same files |
| Extras | Mods from other modders' repositories (paid mods with a key), match-found alerts on PC and phone, Repair when the game won't start | Crosshairs, hero skins, autoexec, launch vanilla, backups, server browser | Hero Locker (several skins per hero), profiles shared as codes, autoexec, launch vanilla, ability colours and sounds, snapshots |
The table only lists what each app's own site says (October 2026). "Not stated" doesn't mean it can't: check that app's docs.
Which one should you use?
- You want to set it up once and forget it: Frogtech Mod Loader. It waits in the tray, switches your mods back on after updates and updates them, so you never start a vanilla game by accident.
- You play on Linux or a Mac: Deadlock Mod Manager or Grimoire. Ours is Windows only.
- You collect hero skins and swap them often: Grimoire's Hero Locker and shareable profiles are built for that.
- You want crosshairs and an autoexec in the same app: Deadlock Mod Manager or Grimoire.
- You want the mods on this site, with updates: Frogtech Mod Loader installs them with one click. Every mod here also has a zip that works in the other two.
Tip: Use one mod manager at a time. Two of them changing gameinfo.gi and the addons folder at once undo each other's work.
Switching mod managers
- 1 Turn every mod off in the old manager (or uninstall them there), then close it, and stop it starting with Windows.
- 2 Check
Deadlock/game/citadel/addons: it should be empty or hold only mods you want to keep. - 3 Install the new manager and add your mods to it again.
- 4 Start Deadlock once to check the mods load.
